How To Make Lip Scrub – Smoother Lips In 5 Minutes
You can learn how to make lip scrub out of simple, non-toxic ingredients that taste really-really-damn-good. While the ingredients for lip scrubs are fairly easy to find, lip scrubs themselves aren’t sold in a lot of physical stores. There are plenty of options online, but the downside to that is you have to wait for shipping.
Below is a really simple low-tech recipe, if you can even call it a recipe. This might be more of a process / framework that you can use to quickly whip up a simple batch of lip scrub.
If you want something fancier, I also have a recipe for the most amazing brown sugar & cinnamon lip scrub you’ll ever try in your life.
HOW TO MAKE LIP SCRUB
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT
- small bowl for mixing
- 2 spoons
- small airtight container for storing finished lip scrub
INGREDIENTS
- granulated white sugar, or an alternative sugar like turbinado, that’s roughly same size as granulated white sugar – this humble ingredient does all the heavy lifting in this recipe as it is THE exfoliant, and a good one at that
- coconut oil – provides slip to make the product workable and usuable, and also adds tons of moisture and skin healing properties
While you could choose to use another oil, coconut is probably the tastiest. Any oil you choose will provide moisture and slip as long as it’s not too thick (castor oil, for example, would not work well in this recipe).
INSTRUCTIONS
- Decide how much scrub you want. My opinion is it’s best to keep small quantities of this scrub as it does not contain any preservatives, and you’ll likely find yourself dipping your finger into it. When you decide how much you want, scoop that much sugar into a small bowl.
- Add about 1/5 that amount in coconut oil and mix thoroughly. You want a very thick mixture that looks like its just moistened with oil. You should not be able to stir it as if it was pot of stew.
- If needed, add the tiniest bit more oil to the mix.
- Transfer into your airtight storage container
How To Store Your Scrub
Since this formula contains coconut oil, which solidifies in colder temperatures, try to keep this scrub at room temperature for ease of use.
How To Use Your Homemade Lip Scrub
- Ensure your lips are free from cosmetics, treatments, balms, etc
- Clean your hands
- Scoop out a very small amount (about 1/2 a pea sized dollop) using clean fingers, a clean popsicle stick, or a small spoon
- Rub onto lips for 30-60 seconds using a gentle circular motion. Stand over a sink to catch any sugar granules that may fall as you’re exfoliating.
- Rinse or wipe sugar granules away, leaving the coconut oil on your lips to continue providing moisture
